First of all we absolutely love the seat. It gets used every time out. My only regret is that the fly bridge is not wider. I'd love to have a bigger one The quality of the construction is obvious and we expect it will last a long time. To help with that I'm having a sunbrella cover made for it. Even though the seat gets rained on and we spray it with the hose after an off shore trip all the stuff inside is still as dry as a bone. Very nice... The installation was a bit of a pain but that is no reflection on your seat. Because it is on the fly bridge it is subject to much higher forces than a pontoon boat installation. I made up 12 3" x 2" teak spacers which I pre-drilled for the size of the bolts that we would use to mount the seat. We decided where the mounting bolts would go and predrilled the seat base. We used that as a template to mark where the holes would go on the cabin top (aka fly bridge floor). We then drilled through the cabin top. Because the cabin top has a wood core we brushed epoxy resin on the inside of the holes to seal up the wood core. We removed the little plastic feet from the seat. Then we placed 6 teak spacers over the holes in the cabin top with 3M 4200 on the bottom and top, placed the seat onto the spacers aligning the holes as best we could, then placed the other 6 teak spacers inside the bottom of the seat to use as backing plates (again with 4200 on both sides). Then we through bolted the whole thing to the cabin top using SS bolts and 4200 on the bolts. Then we bolted the arm rests to the seat using SS hardware. All done... It is very solid. I've included a couple of pictures so you can see the installation. |
